| Sheldon Evans almostoctober.com intimate wedding and elopement photographer

I’m a full time wedding and elopement photographer based in the ever so beautiful South Africa. I love traveling, conversations about our existence and great coffee. Fortunately, we’ve got some of the highest voted coffee shops in the world here in South Africa.

Someone once asked me why I do what I do and I replied with “I get to hear stories no one else does” and so I’ve stuck with that answer. When I’m invited to capture the love between two people I’m not trying to tell a story, but rather trying to document and capture the unique stories people have to share. There are few things more precious than having the opportunity to spend one of the most important days in someone’s life alongside them.

That being said, I want to be there to capture the real moments, those moments between moments. The way you look at one another when the other isn’t looking back. The moment she whispers to him “you’re perfect”. The moment of pure ecstasy he experiences when he sees her for the first time in her dress. These moments.

Show me your story and let’s create magic together.

Frequently asked questions

I believe that my images should speak volumes without me having to say anything, although some questions do arise. I’ve put together a list of some of the most frequent questions I get asked by clients. If your question isn’t answered below, feel free to mail me at hello@sheldonevansphoto.com and I’ll be happy to help!

Are you available for travel?

Yes, absolutely! Just as I’ve said before, I’ve been lucky enough to shoot in some incredible places both inside and outside of South Africa. I try to keep travel as simple as possible. If airfare, a hotel and a car rental are required for my commission, then you’ll simply be responsible for the direct reimbursement of the charges. No hidden costs, no trouble.

Do you work with a second photographer?

I do not work with a second photographer although I will occasionally use an assistant. He/she will be there there to help out with the carrying of gear and lighting equipment. The reason I do this is that you’re booking me for “my” style and “my” work, sure a second shooter may be able to produce beautiful images, although they won’t be in the style you’ve booked me for.

How soon do I have to reserve my date?

As soon as possible is the honest answer. I’ve had bookings up to a year and a half in advance.

How do I make sure I look amazing in my photos?

Firstly, don’t worry about this too much, that’s my job!

Although, if you’d like to make my job easier the best I could suggest is make sure that there’s adequate light at your wedding. The most important thing I look for as a photographer is beautiful light.  The softer, more natural light looks, the better you’ll look! Pleasure ensure that your reception is not only candle/very dimly lit. The more light the better your images will look. If you’d like I can help with this in the pre-wedding meeting.

I don't live in South Africa, how do we meet before the wedding day?

This isn’t a problem at all, I make this as easy as possible. My entire booking process takes place online and if you’d like to meet, a Skype meeting can easily be arranged.

Do you only use natural light?

A better term would be available light, and no I don’t. I shoot with a variety of lighting gear and modifiers if the lighting conditions aren’t ideal, which my assistant is there to help carry.
